Private Pilot Training

Requirements

• Be English proficient
• Be at least 16 years old to solo, 17 years old for your pilot’s license
• Proof of Citizenship OR TSA approval prior to beginning your training
• Pass a basic physical/ possess medical certificate prior to first solo
• A Minimum of 40 hours of training: 20 hours dual instruction, 20 hours solo practice (The actual average time in training is about 70 hours)
• Pass the written exam with 70% minimum
• Pass Checkride

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I Need to Take Ground School First?

No. In fact we recommend students take ground school at the same time they begin their training. What you learn in the classroom then nicely augments what you learn in the airplane and visa versa. You can do the ground school portion of you training at any time before or during.

What Is Ground School? Why Do I Need It?

Ground school provides you a great portion of the book-knowledge you need to become a pilot. It also is a great tool in preparing yourself for the written exam, which you can take at any time during your training prior to taking your practical exam (“Checkride”) to get your license.

Am I Too Young or Too Old?

Nope! While youngsters can not solo until they are 16, we have students as young as 12. Likewise, we have several students well into their 70s or older who are finally fulfilling life-long dreams to become pilots! It’s never too early or too late to do what you love!

What Will I Train In?

Any single-engine piston-powered aircraft, or light sport aircraft (Yes! You can get your full pilot’s license in a LSA!) like any of the aircraft on our flight line.

How Often Should I Train?

There are no rules, but we recommend you fly at least twice a week, three or four times a week for accelerated training. Flying only once a week or less can slow your progress. If you’re in a hurry or under a tight budget, it’s best to fly on a more condensed schedule.
